A visible reference from an AI-generated answer to a source document.

In AI search, a citation is a link or reference an answer attaches to a source. A citation is different from a mention: an answer can name a company without citing its site, and can cite a page without naming the company.
Citation behaviour varies by system and changes over time, so the GEO Standard requires citation measurements to state the system and date sampled.
